According to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Alabama linebacker, Tim Williams is slated to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers today. A “risk vs. reward” situation indeed.

THE RISK: Williams has quite a bit of baggage he would bring to an organization already under a microscope by the NFL and commissioner, Roger Goodell. With multiple failed drug tests while in college, along with a gun charge just last year makes this prospect one most teams would shy away from.

THE REWARD: At 6’3″, 245 lbs, Williams would actually be a good fit for the Steelers. A pure pass-rusher who had 9 sacks and 16 tackles for loss last year for the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide. Yet he knows that when he meets with prospective teams, his talent on the field with not be addressed nearly as much as his off-field issues.

“I’m a young player. I made decisions that I grew from,” Williams said at the Scouting Combine. “It’s all about being a man, owning up to your situations, owning up to your mistakes. I’m not here laughing around joking. I know I’ve got something to prove. I’m obviously behind the 8-ball so I’m here to prove not only to myself but to every organization that if they take me, they’re going to get the best player here.”

Only time will tell if Pittsburgh or the other 31 teams can look past the risk of Williams’ past, and focus on the possible reward by drafting him in this years NFL draft.
