Steelers Trim Fat to 53 Man Roster 


The Pittsburgh Steelers cut 22 players and made a trade Saturday afternoon as they trimmed down to the league mandated 53 man roster..ahead of the National Football League’s  4 p.m. deadline.

The Steelers traded a 2018 sixth round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for 2015 first-round cornerback pick Justin Gilbert, while releasing Doran Grant, Montell Garner, Al-Hajj Shabazz and Donald Washington..all play the same position as Gilbert. The trade is pending the successful completion of a physical.

Here’s a look at the other players/positions who were cut.

WR: Demarcus Ayers, Cobi Hamilton, Marcus Tucker

RB: Brandon Brown-Dukes, Cameron Stingily

OT: Matt Feiler, Wade Hansen

G: Shahbaz Ahmed, Antoine Everett

DL: Lavon Hooks, Caushaud Lyons, Johnny Maxey

OLB: Jermauria Rasco, Travis Feeney

ILB: Steven Johnson

QB: Bryn Renner

S: Ray Vinopal

TE: Paul Lang, waived-injured

Hopefuls who have made the Steelers roster are..tight end Xavier Grimble, wide receiver *Eli Rogers, inside linebackers *Tyler Matakevich and *L.J. Fort, safety Jordan Dangerfield, defensive end L.T. Walton, interior linemen Chris Hubbard and B.J. Finney and running backs *Daryl Richardson and *Fitzgerald Toussaint.

All released players clear waivers at noon Sunday, at which point a ten man practice squad will be announced.
