Welcome Aboard, Artie Burns Jr. #HereWeGo

“Artie Burns….Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers.”

Yes, that is the phone call received yesterday evening by Miami Hurricanes corner back, Artie Burns Jr. Who had just been drafted with the 25th overall pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Knowing how freaked out and in awe Burns must have been receiving such a phone call, speaking to the Steelers website he described his impression of coach Tomlin.

“After meeting with Mike Tomlin, he was one of the coolest coaches I’ve met. The players really relate to him. They want to play for him. When he talked to me, I could tell that everything he was saying was legit. He seemed like a genuine person. The way he carries himself, he just has so much swag. Swag that’s so natural for a head coach.”

ARTIE BURNS: In A Nutshell

Burns, with a pedigree on the football field and the track, earning four-star recruit status while winning a state title in the 110 meter hurdles three times during his high school career.

Burns translated that dual success in high school to the Hurricanes, winning All-American and All-Conference honors as a hurdler for the track and field squad and becoming one of the top corners in the ACC.

Burns played in a reserve role as a freshman in 2013 before becoming a starter in his sophomore year, ending with 40 tackles.. 6 pass breakups. He flourished in 2015, intercepting six passes..the most by a Miami player since Sean Taylor had 10 in 2003..and breaking up 5 others on his way to consensus second-team All-ACC honors.
