Roethlisberger Listed As Backup For Jones
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will back up Landry Jones when the Steelers take on the Cleveland Browns this afternoon at Heinz Field, a team source told ESPN’s Britt McHenry.
Something I believe the team should have did when they faced the Kansas City Chiefs in week 6, because Jones definitely wasn’t ready to be the starter. Is he ready to be today when he goes up against the Browns? That remains to be seen, but I do have faith in the 3rd string turned starter this time around.
Roethlisberger, who had his left foot roll under him while being brought to the ground late in last weekend’s win over the Oakland Raiders..had been listed by the team as questionable. He was expected to be in a walking boot all week but was out of the boot and “progressing ahead of schedule,” a source told ESPN on Thursday.
With this being said..where does that leave another backup quarterback, Mike Vick.
If Vick is supposedly “healthy”..but the Steelers choose to list a slightly injured Roethlisberger over him, does that mean that the team and coaches have completely lost faith in their former #2? At this point in the season it i definitely looking like it, and honestly..can you blame them?
I believe that Roethlisberger as a backup will work to the Steelers advantage. If Jones plays well, manage the clock correctly and limits his turnovers from two to none than Pittsburgh walks away with a victory. Utilizing each of the offense’s potent weapons, especially DeAngelo Williams out of the back field will give Landry the opportunity to control this game. This in addition will give Big Ben two weeks to recover from his injury. So let’s hope that is the direction this is headed. #HereWeGo
