Steelers go with Hartley as Replacement for Shuisham

Would I have loved to have him back? Of course. But since Jeff Reed decided to pull a drunken Sebastian Janakowski at the Hall of Fame game..(his second since 2009)..our kicker hails from a different temperament.

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed former New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley today according to his agent. The Steelers were in need of a kicker after Shaun Suisham tore an ACL Sunday during Hall of Fame game versus the Vikings Sunday evening.

An injury that may have never occurred if the special teams coordinator, Danny Smith would have reminded the hard charging, Suisham that it was only preseason..and not to go balls out.

Hartley last kicked for the Saints in 2013. He made the overtime field goal that sent the Saints to the Super Bowl in January 2010. He kicked last season for the Cleveland Browns, making all three of his kicks in two games with the Browns.

Which basically should work out nicely, since the Steelers offense is due to improve in the redzone this season. So we should only hope for Hartley to make every extra point he is lined up to kick.

Hartley for his career is 85-of-104 and has missed once in 179 extra point tries. Statistics that in my opinion just what is needed in this year long situation.

Welcome aboard, Garrett Hartley!
