The Pittsburgh Steelers will be reporting to training camp more earlier than usual this season. The early date of course is to prepare to play the Minnesota Vikings in the Hall of Fame on Aug. 9th in Canton, Ohio. You know the day after Steelers former running back, Jerome Bettis is to be inducted?

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette explains that the benefit will be more for Steelers coach Mike Tomlin to use the extra week to turn that 90-man roster into the 53-man roster that will travel to New England in September. Fans need not worry that Ben Roethlisberger or Heath Miller might be overworked with the longer camp.

PRE-CAMP ROSTER

Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune Sports has put together a pre-training camp roster for the Steelers by position complete with locks and scouting reports. He lists Dri Archer as a roster lock in the running back group and says Josh Harris is on the bubble.

When you see it all listed out you notice just how thin at depth the Steelers are on the defensive line. Sure the singing of Cameron Heyward to a six-year extension last week provides stability on the line for years but besides that there is nothing but question marks.

Outside linebacker position is definitely going to be an interesting battle between hopeful backups. Jarvis Jones, Arthur Moats, James Harrison and Bud Dupree are all locks.

Another position battle that will be interesting to watch is at tight end. Although Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth or sure to keep their spots, will Jesse James have enough to round out the 3rd TE? I believe so.

Either way, this is turning into one of the most interesting training camps in recent years. Heading into what is looking to be a strong run towards a 7th Super Bowl Title. #HereWeGo #Steelers #StairwayToSeven
