Steelers Must Keep Foot on Gas Pedal vs. Jets

“One win..two wins..three wins (in a row)..good wins”. Well actually, they were more like great wins. But what the Pittsburgh Steelers need to do now is not get too comfortable, and keep their foot on the pedal.

Overconfidence is a cancer in the National Football League, which has been proven time and time again. Just look at last year’s Super Bowl, where the Denver Broncos clearly went into the game versus the Seattle Seahawks believing that it would be a cakewalk. Only to viciously find out otherwise.

As have the Steelers this season, and seasons past. Overconfidence in week 4 against the Tampa Bay Bucs and week 6 in the second meeting against the Cleveland Browns showed in their play. Mental breakdowns is what doomed them vs. the Baltimore Ravens in week 2, but neither of those frowned upon traits will cut it in week 10.

Going against the New York Jets (1-8), with the 23rd overall ranked offense and 14th overall defense may seem like that “walk in the park” type of game. But if the Pittsburgh Steelers go into the game thinking that way, they may be in for a rude awakening. The Jets will not be going into the game looking for another loss, because record aside..they want to win like everyone else.

Looking ahead to that game, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger put it best, asking out loud: “Why change what’s working right now?”

Exactly right! “If it ain’t broke..don’t fix it”! Stick with the game plan as follows and treat this game as if it were against the Patriots.

Case in point, the last three times they have entered into Oakland only to get embarrassed by the Raiders, who have been the worst team in the NFL for over a decade.

So my plead to the Steelers is this..”DO NOT GO INTO METLIFE STADIUM BELIEVING IT WILL BE AN EASY WIN”! Because remember, they are all professional football players like yourselves. Keep that in mind and play for the full 60 minutes like you have over the past few weeks, and you will prevail.

MY PREDICTION: Steelers 35 Jets 21
