Every Other Sunday (Heads Will Roll)
What do you call a team that consistently wins one week, only to lose the next? “THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS“! Hence the title a this blog piece, and the should be remake of the movie “Any Given Sunday”.
Now, who is to blame for the Steelers “50/50” style of play? At first glance over the past two seasons as well as this season, the answer has obviously been Todd Haley. But two other names definitely need to be mentioned as well. And those are the names of head coach Mike Tomlin, and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.
Agree with this or not, it is indeed on the minds of the majority of Die Hard Steelers fans, as well as the Rooney family. Because back-to-back 8-8 seasons doesn’t cut it in the National Football League or the Storybook Franchised Pittsburgh Steelers.
* Third-and-1 for the Steelers at their own 24-yard line on the game’s opening series. From a power formation, Ben Roethlisberger faked an inside handoff to Will Johnson before flipped the ball outside to Le’Veon Bell. Browns DB Tashaun Gipson got to the corner and dropped Bell for a loss to force a Steelers punt.
* This time it was three straight running plays, but it turned into another red zone failure nevertheless. After a
pass interference penalty on Joe Haden helped the Steelers to a first down at the Browns 7-yard line, it was three straight running plays that gained 4 yards and necessitated a 20-yard field goal by Shaun Suishamand a 3-0 lead with 5:09 left in the first quarter.
Call me crazy but those type of play calls, especially in the redzone are “UNACCEPTABLE”! And those are the play calls of offensive coordinator Todd Haley. I think Snoop Dogg(Lion) said it best..”THEY NEED TO GET RID OF THAT MOTHA FUCKA, MAN”!
As for Dick LeBeau, whether he is not illustrating to the defense how to be focused and resilient or the D is just plain undisciplined, either way LeBeau has had a good run.
All this ties into head coach Mike Tomlin, who’s decision was not only to bring in Haley, but also allowing LeBeau undisciplined defense to give up 34 points to a weak Cleveland Browns team. Without so much calling LeBeau or the defense out on it. This is one of the reasons why the “Stability Within The Organization” will soon come to an end.
Three head coaches in 45 years is a record unheard of in any professional sports team. But mediocrity for the highly decorated Pittsburgh Steelers organization is embarrassing to witnes, as well as to claim. “HEADS WILL ROLL”! #PS4L
